Nobody knows for certain how many edible plant species exist. Estimates range from 7.000 to 50.000, depending which data and definitions are used. But even though there are at least thousands of edible plant species still out there, today humanity relies on only 3 species, rice, wheat and maize, for 60% of its food. Depending on such a narrow basis is risky, boring and destructive. The key for change lies in crop diversity, and these seeds are its foundation. They carry the potential of a lavish plant based future.
